Don't Trade Rights for Security
"Those who sacrifice essential liberty for temporary safety are not deserving of either liberty or safety." -- Ben Franklin, 1776 In the wake of 9/11 and subsequent terrorist attacks around the world, there is a real temptation to allow the government to take away some of our most precious rights in exchange for greater security. We must resist this temptation. In order to have a free society, there are certain prices that have to be paid. One of those is the possibility that someone will take advantage of our freedom and use it as an opportunity to endanger us. So what if they do? Giving up any part of our freedom is not the answer. In fact, that's exactly what the terrorists want. When we do that...

Dawn on the Amazon III motored up the Nanay River for three days and two nights to observe, and photograph the sixth annual Great Amazon River Raft Race. We spent the first night at the village of Nina Rumi. Before the roosters crowed, the sounds of machetes echoed through the fog as the teams shaped the balsa logs for their rafts. These rafts were not so much built, as engineered. One raft in particular caught my attention. It was built in secrecy by a small group who had camped and fished overnight on the sandbar across the river. I heard them laughing into the night and knew they were having fun. We took my Jon boat across to spy on them. They were delighted with the interest we showed, and were...

Getting cheap air tickets is not that easy nowadays as it used to be in the past. As almost all the airlines have been facing the increase in fuel prices, competitors' offers and the demand for seats as their base line for pricing their ticket cost. Due to a wide usage use of Internet, availability of the air tickets is put in a centralized system and the prices of such air tickets change according to the demand. This results in different prices paid by different people for the same air ticket of a single air carrier. To get cheap air tickets, the person should be always on the prowl searching and shopping from various sources. Even though fluctuations in prices happen every now and then, there...
Dance has been an important part of rituals, celebrations and entertainment since before the birth of human civilisation. In the beginning, before we had written language to record things, the purpose of dance was often to tell stories and to pass them down to future generations. The story of dancing in Cuba In Cuba, as in ancient times, dance tells its own story. The passion and energy of Cuban dance reveals the strength and conviction of the Cuban people, determined to enjoy life despite 'la lucha' (the struggle) of living in a strictly regulated country where the average monthly wage comes in at around 400 pesos - less than £10. The richness of Cuban music and dancing also tells the story of...
Something I often find myself getting asked from friends and relatives who know my expertise in the island is what the average Cuban holiday actually involves. This is a question I simultaneously love and hate answering - I love it because it gives me an opportunity to chat at length about a topic I love, but I hate it because if they've asked that question it means I'm going to be there for a while. You see, simply put, there is no 'average' Cuban holiday, and everyone goes to the island for different reasons and receives a unique experience in return. The experience holiday makers get on their Cuba holidays can be relaxed, cultural, exhausting or breathtaking - but never forgettable. For a start...
Yesterday morning I had arranged to meet one of the women from the from the university, a very nice lady in her late 50s, who agreed to show me around the Vedado area and take me through some local markets. Vedado is a beautiful residential neighbourhood with many mansions and villas dating back maybe 80 to 100 years or so. Before the revolution it was the neighbourhood where all the doctors, lawyers and business people lived, most of whom emigrated around the time of the Revolution. (Business people and professionals were expropriated as part of the Communist reorganization after the Revolution, as a result hundreds of thousands emigrated to the US, where there are substantial counter-revolutionary...
How to make big money while being at home?
There is now a quick and easy way to make money, while being at home. I never thought it was possible, I didn't want to believe it the first time I saw a check in my mailbox, and now I would like to comeback in time to start earlier. I never thought it would be possible to get so much money while being at home. But now, I know that it is possible. It may sounds crazy, but I have been using the '21ButRich Guide to Freedom' from David Sigouin for now 6 months and I've never been in a much better financial situation (and all my family too for the matter) than PRESENTLY. Don't get me wrong, I'm still very young (22 years old) but I never thought I could clear all my debts so quickly. I was owing more...
Roads Paved With Cigarette Butts As Smoking Ban...
Since July 1st, much of the country has been rejoicing at the introduction of a smoking ban in the UK. It is now against the law to smoke in any public building including pubs and restaurants. Now people can enjoy an evening out without fear of returning home stinking of cigarette smoke. But has anyone stopped to think just how such a ban is effecting small rural communities in England and particularly the children who live there. Our quiet villages have already seen a change in character and for those who reside in the heart of these villages, this change is not a positive one. Noise levels, late into the evening, seven days a week, have increased dramatically with drinkers now spilling out onto...

History of Anabolic Steroid
Surprising it may seem, but tracing the history of anabolic steroid will reveal that there was prevalence of its use among professional athletes in ancient Greece. In those times, athletes used natural steroidal substances in order to enhance Androgenic ( anabolic growth in the body. As the history of anabolic steroid unfolds, one would find that in early 1930s, German scientists discovered the drug in modern pharmaceutical form - albeit accidentally. There was however no immediate interest to pursue research into the drug's utility. After a hiatus of nearly 2 decades, the first serious scientific attention to anabolic steroid ( upon in 1950s when methandrostenolone or Dianabol ( approved by the...
Classic Cars In Cuba
Havana is a potent mixture of the old and the new. Modern office buildings punctuate the skyline alongside deteriorating Eastern European residential towers. Ancient vehicles, some with more rust than paint, share the road with newer, shinier models, while horse-drawn carts mingle with motorcycles. Flea markets display Cuba holiday mementos - wooden models of cars built in the 1950s, which are still seen on Cuban streets. 'Yank tank', 'máquina' 'cacharro' and 'bartavia' are all words used to describe the American classic cars in Cuba. It is the only place where history and circumstance have combined to enable a whole society to preserve these amazing vehicles and turn them into a national...

They say Victor Vazquez and David Margolis are accused of helping some 4,500 travelers avoid Cuba-related travel regulations. Castro and Cuba Clobbered by Catastrophic...
Western Cuba is in the path of Tropical Storm and potentially Hurricane Gamma and it threatens to bring torrential rains and massive flooding to the already weakened country. Can Cuba's Castro conquer another catastrophic storm clobbering his country? Some are worried that Fidel Castro will soon pass and succumb to economic pressures and crisis from the catastrophic 2005 record breaking Caribbean Tropical Hurricane Season. During Hurricane Wilma, which waged war on Western World Weather Records, Cuba received epic proportion floods which washed away much of the land claiming lives and causing mudslides. Is Castro concerned about the Cuban Cigar market, one of the countries current cash crops? Many...
Love and its attendant passions has been the favorite subject of Spanish poetry since the time of the troubadours, medieval poets who earned their keep by singing for the people at the village square or for the nobility during royal gatherings at the palace. Composers in their own right, these court poets sang about courtly love and the bittersweet pain of unattained love for an idealized woman using the jarchas, a form of love song that was actually poetry written in very short stanzas. It is important in the study of Spanish love poems to differentiate between poems that originated from countries outside of Spain including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua...
One of the most popular holiday types we sell at Captivating Cuba is the scuba diving holiday. Cuba attracts swarms of divers every year, attracted by its calm, warm waters, its stunning coral reefs, sunken shipwrecks and dazzling array of tropical fish. The waters boast an average annual temperature of over 24 degrees centigrade, and with an average visibility of 98 feet, allowing divers an excellent view of the underwater paradise the Cuban dive sites offer. The lack of strong currents and variety of dive sites available mean that the island is a perfect training ground for Cubas diving virgins, as well as offering a challenge for those who were born in a wet suit! So without further ado, heres a...
One of my favourite questions is "What is there to do in Havana?" Havana is a city of a thousand experiences - architecture, culture, revolution, old American cars, nightlife, music and salsa. There is so much do in Havana that I could go on for hours! But today I would like to talk about just two or three of my favourite places in this amazing city. I would like to start with the old town - that has to be the best place in Havana. It has stunning architecture, beautiful churches and fabulous 17th century palaces. When it comes to nightlife, well, it is famous for its clubs full of salsa and jazz that go on all night. If you want to enjoy Havana while doing nothing, whether by day or by night, you...
Medical Tourism Globalization - Explore
Medical tourism, also known as travel or health tourism, is popularized widely by travel agencies and mass media to provide a back-up for today's rapidly growing trends of traveling to different countries to get cheaper and modern health-care facilities. Report shows that medical tourists are traveling largely from U.S., Europe, U.K., Canada, Middle East, Japan because of their expensive health-care system or lack of health-care options locally. It's been established now that due to a sort of lengthy procedures for some of complicated illness, such as a hip replacement, patients have to wait several months in U.K. or Canada. Whereas the same procedures may be started-off immediately just after...
The instrumentation of Cuban Conga rhythm differs depending on whether it's for the Conga Habanera (from Havana) or the Conga Oriental (from Santiago de Cuba, in Oriente Province). Conga Habanera utilizes the requinto, quinto, and conga drums, various sized bass drums, cowbells, snare drums, trumpets, and frying pans. The Conga Oriental replaces the frying pans with brake drums while also employing the hoe blade, and replaces the traditional trumpet with a corneta china or trompeta china (Chinese coronet or Chinese trumpet). The Conga Habanera features sounds more often found in city life, whereas the Conga Oriental retains a rustic musical character. just as the Mozambique is adapted for the drum...
An Interesting Look At The Cuban Cigar
Even most non-cigar smokers have heard some of the lore surrounding the Cuban cigar. Long revered as the finest and best tasting brands in the world, they have traditionally been extremely difficult to procure. Consequently there exists a very profitable market for importing and distributing Cuban cigars to cigar-lovers worldwide. There are many brands of Cuban cigars available, but some of the most well known include Coronas Especiales (rumored to be one of Fidel Castro's favorites) and Montecristos. Many people assume that the distribution of Cuban cigars on U.S. soil is illegal. The truth of the matter is, although there are certain restrictions placed on the importing of cigars from Cuba, there...
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 Hello from Cuba (12) - Contrasts and Contradictions Etecsa Telecommunications Building, Downtown Havana, Thursday, April 13, 2005, 3:32 pm I really gotta hurry, I only have about 28 minutes left on my Internet card so I am going to try to be brief here. The last few days have been extremely interesting. I am not a political expert, but in a city like Havana you can´t help but be confronted with politics. Everywhere you see billboards with political slogans, monuments of heroes that were significant in Cuba´s history, pictures of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro, and the Cuban Revolution as well as the present economic circumstances are omnipresent topics of conversation...

Legal Issues Facing Home Based Business
A real home based Internet business has to comply with the same legal regulations as an Internet business from any other location. Here are the basic legal issues with which a real home based Internet business owner must be familiar. The first issue, and a real concern for any home based Internet business is the restriction based on age. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) follows the regulations spelled out in COPPA, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, and requires that children under the age of 13 cannot disclose their personal information unless a parent consents to it. Children under the age of 18 cannot be allowed to view adult content on the Internet, nor can they enter into any...

The dream of capoting a casino is as old as the notion "casino" itself. Every gambler wants to win. Every other invents his own "system". Every hundredth attempts to carefully analyze the game. The casinos, surely, knows about the existence of "counters" and are trying to oppose them - from changing the rules to banning the game. Sometimes even exceeding the limits of reason and legality. The city gives way to sandy white beaches and a warm sea, but the crowning jewel of Torrevieja sightseeing is the old town itself. Old Town Torrevieja Torevieja is named literally for an old tower that became popular with tourists as far back at the early 1800s. It was here that the salt industry made its home. Hello from Cuba (11) - Inside A Cuban Home
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 Hello from Cuba (11) - Inside A Cuban Home Etecsa Telecommunications Building, Downtown Havana Wednesday, April 13, 2005, 3:06 pm So I am sitting here in a new place and I gotta hurry since I bought a $6 CUC Internet access card and I only have 53 minutes left. At any rate, the dinner at Pedro´s family on Sunday was amazing. We took the GuaGua (Public Transit System) and after about 1 hour we arrived in the area of Marinao. From there we had to walk another 30 minutes or so to get to his house. There I was received by an entire Cuban family, Pedro´s wife and daughter, his sister in law and their two female cousins who had come in from out of town. It was amazing being...
Hello From Cuba - Part 1 - First Impressions
Tuesday, April 5, 2005, 6:00 pm, Hotel Havana Libre Thanks to a severe case of the Revenge of Montezuma (or Ricky Ricardo?..,) I am sitting here in the Hotel Havana Libre and I finally get around to create updates from my first 4.5 days here in Cuba. The Internet connection is definitely the slowest I have ever seen in my entire life, (15 minutes to access my messages at Yahoo..), but I am giving it a shot anyways. Friday morning I arrived at the airport in Toronto at 5:30 am since my husband gave me a ride before work. The plane was scheduled to leave at 10:30 and several transfers with public transport would have taken me 2.5 hours anyway, so I decided to head there early and read a book. Air...
Cappuccino - Other Worldwide Coffees Ideas
There was a time in America where Folger's coffee dominated, with instant and drip varieties, taken with sugar and/or milk. Then, our world expanded with Skybury from Australia to Peaberry from Kenya, and let's not forget Barcelona's Kona. Nowadays, there are so many varieties of great coffees, blends from so many countries, it is positively mind-boggling. Not surprising to note that after just over a century, Brazil is now the world's largest coffee producer. It has space enough for one third of the world's coffee growing area. It has produced South America's delicious blends from Minas Gerais to Bahia. Popayan and Narino blends are probably from the best-known producer, Columbia. These are...

The Advantages of Direct Manufacturing...
Ensuring that you are getting the best price possible for inventory is a vital process that should be equally as important to a company as ensuring quality is consistent and delivered on-time to customers. With many global brands opting for to directly outsource manufacturing to China, other businesses are attempting to follow by both taking advantage of Asian markets and also ensuring they do not have the profit margins of a broker to contend with as well. Being able to locate and build relationships with direct manufacturers is becoming increasingly difficult with the rise in brokers in the marketplace, however when you do indeed manage to locate one; the advantages of building a partnership with...
Mojito (pronounced [moh-HEE-toh]) is a traditional Cuban drink cocktail that became very popular during the late 1980s, but has seen resurgence in popularity in recent years. The mojito is traditionally made of five ingredients: rum, powdered sugar, lime juice, club soda, and mint. Its combination of sweetness and refreshing citrus and mint flavors tend to mask the potent kick of the rum so be careful. The mojito is once again considered a highly fashionable drink. Its popularity resurgence is evidenced by its prominent role in recent Bacardi rum advertisements as well as being featured in several current television shows and movies. There are countless recipes for the mojito, but this is the...
Package Holidays to Cuba
Hello again, dear reader. Today I am going to give you some advices on how to make the best out of your experience in Cuba. If you really want to get to know this amazing Caribbean island then try to avoid the cheap classic package holiday to Cuba that sells flights and accommodation for as little as 499.00 sterling pounds per person based on 2 people sharing a standard room. There is actually nothing wrong with the quality of accommodation or flights but to travel for 9 hours on a plane across the Atlantic to end up secluded in a private beach is definitely the worst way to know Cuba. This kind of holiday will attract the tourist that is not interested in culture whatsoever and would rather stay on...
Just think of the greatest adventurers who ever lived and the greatest journeys ever undertaken: the Jews, Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus and Charles Darwin come to mind. All of them had compelling reasons for setting off on dangerous journeys into the unknown. What they found (in their cases the Promised Land, China, America and evolution respectively) soldered them into history and made them famous, but also opened the world to travel as never before. Travel writing ever since has echoed the odysseys of these great people. Writers still feel it incumbent on them to have some higher purpose to their journeys beyond mere self-indulgence or curiosity. On the rare occasions when travel writers break...

Power Restored to US Mission in Cuba
Power has been restored to the U.S. diplomatic Interests Section in Havana, after Washington accused the Cuban government of deliberating cutting the electricity and Havana angrily denied it. U.S. officials say the electricity returned Tuesday afternoon following an eight-day outage that forced the mission to use generator power. The State Department Monday said the power was turned off as part of what it termed "bullying tactics" by the Cubans. It said Cuba had refused to restore service despite appeals from both American and Swiss diplomats, who technically represent U.S. interests in Cuba. Cuban President Fidel Castro's government "categorically denied" the cuts were premeditated. Cuban officials...
Making Road Trips More Comfortable
